I have been to five concerts in my life. I know, it's sad. But now that I've been to some, I can actually comment. They're listed in the order that I went to see them.
This counts as fandom stuff, right? Moving on.
1.
John Williams and the New York PhilharmonicI sadly don't remember all that much about this concert because I went to it years ago, as a part of a school function. But I have a great love for Mr. Williams and all his movie madness. I distinctly remember the performance of E.T., where they played the film on a giant screen and performed the corresponding music. Excellent. And, of course, they also played the Star Wars theme, and Jaws (a personal favorite).
2.
Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street BandThis was my very first "real" concert. I had nosebleed seats in a giant stadium and didn't know most of the songs because I had yet to realize the genius that is Bruuuuce. It was also the first time I saw someone puke on the person in front of them.
3.
Nine Inch NailsOh goodness, how can I possibly give an unbiased statement on this concert? Nine Inch Nails is my favorite band of all time, I have a not-sosecret crush on Trent Reznor (which my boyfriend doesn't mind, as he has an even bigger crush on him), and I cried when he came out onto the stage from a screen of fog. The concert experience was made even more interesting by the drunk man in the seat in front of us who was swaying off-beat. We had front section seats and new every single song, including the cover of Paul Newman's song "Metal". Excellent.
4.
Jason MrazWhat I liked most about the Jason concert, besides our excellent seats, was how much he interacts with his audience. He'll stop what he's doing at any given moment and just talk to the audience, usually between songs. He makes them dance and sing with him, and his personality is just too amiable NOT to enjoy. This is a concert that was difficult not to enjoy, not only for good music but unique personality. This particular concert was really mellow, but the lack of upbeatness didn't take away from the experience.
5.
The Rockstar Mayhem Tour, featuring Marilyn Manson.I went to this concert quite recently, having purchased tickets before I realized that it was the Mayhem Festival and not strictly a Manson concert. We were almost crushed in the pre-show outside, where the guy from Cannibal Corpse screamed his head off and performed a rather excellent windmill. I've never had beer dumped on me before, but I guess that was okay considering how ravingly drunk everyone was. The actual venue housed four performances. Bullet for my Valentine, Killswitch Engage, Slayer, and Marilyn Manson.
Bullet was all right, Killswitch was good, Slayer was AWFUL. Manson was positively frightening in his dramatic perfomance and blatant anti-church beliefs, but so talented that I didn't mind when he lit a bible on fire and spit his energy beer all over the crowd. He sang an excellent cover of Sweet Dreams (originally by Eurythmics). We had lawn seats and sat in the handicapped section, which meant I had a great view of all the mosh pits and a constant stream of secondhand pot smoke to entertain me during the show. People watching was never so grand as it was at Mayhem.
I don't know why I posted this. Boredom, I guess. I wanted to talk more about how ridiculous the Slayer fans were, but the computer has a three to five second lag when I'm typing and it's driving me loco.
